Petcore Europe initiated the establishment of Labels WG along with Sleever, P&G, Coca-Cola, FINAT and many other members of this working group.
The labels allow the brand owners to convey a message to their customer by indicating the ingredients, the health risks and/or instructions and so forth. Thus, today, labels are still necessary in the packaging, and this is proven by the market demand. However, labels are considered as a disrupter for packaging recycling. Moreover, with the upcoming essential requirement from the European Commission, where most of the labels are initially classified in the negative list, the members of this Labels WG agreed to gather the strength with other members of Petcore Europe in order to present the strengths and the weaknesses of labels and work together on the bottlenecks existing within the sector.
The objective of this working group is to integrate labels in the recycling stream. We have identified four task forces:
- Identifying the possible improvement in current guidelines regards to labels;
- Identifying the possible market of the floated PP-PE in the recycling stream;
- New generations of ink: how can they be integrated in the recycling stream;
- New generations of label: crystallizable labels.
